The city is an environment altered by history and embodied by the remnants of what people have left to decay. I fabricate a pictorial reality that is a record, and observes issues of identity and social commentary. Signage and graffiti can indicate the atrophy of a city; however, these signs and symbols create ways to leave messages and make statements. I illustrate this language and try to create dichotomies, such as oil painting as a product of “high art” vs. graffiti, a subculture of Hip Hop considered “low art.” I use the reality of the city fashion a stage and investigate the boundaries of taste, value and beauty.
